Letter to Parents/Guardians

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your son/daughter has enrolled in our prestigious Strength and Conditioning (CrossFit CPHS) program. Given the nature of the course, I just wanted to cover a few housekeeping details to ensure your child has the best possible experience.

  • the program is OPTIONAL – your child has chosen this unique course because it interests them; it is assumed that by signing up, they want to become fitter – this requires them to attend all sessions, listen attentively, follow all instructions and work diligently
  • grades are based on their effort, attitude/approach to learning, willingness to acquire and master new skills, and their overall performance in achieving their goals
  • When the student misses the class, they are missing a valuable instructional and training hour
  • the program is scaled to students’ abilities – I will ensure that they work at their level
  • SAFETY is the number one priority – as such students must be ON TIME to hear all instructions with regard to the day’s session
  • if a student is late, they need to come into the weight room quietly and check in with me once the introductory lesson is over
  • students are expected to change into appropriate workout gear every day (running shoes, shorts/sweats, t-shirt/sweatshirt)
  • if a student has an injury, or is feeling under the weather, they are still expected to do a revised workout (naturally, there are exceptions) – a note from home is very helpful
  • they do not ever need their phones – I will provide a safe place for them, but they cannot have them out in the weight room
  • the program uses a blog: crossfitcphs1.wordpress.com ~ workouts are posted the night before, so that students know what is happening very day
  • students are required to create their own personal blog to serve as their journal – it is worth 10% of their final evaluation (the instructions to create the blog are on our website; they have an MSIP period every day that allows time for the blog entry)

The program is demanding, and it will require them to push their comfort zones substantially at times. If you have any concerns, please contact me at the number below. Our program is the envy of schools around the world. We have countless visitors checking in with us to see how to do similar things in their schools. This is the 8th year that we have been an accredited Non-profit CrossFit affiliate. We also run a community program before school and on Monday nights. The students are part of a very vigorous CrossFit community in Carleton Place (and around the world with 15,000 affiliates).

I am excited to work with your child to guide them to a healthier lifestyle.

Thanks.

Brian Dickie
